When Design Meets Art Magic The Lancasters Project

Ever wondered how artwork can transform a space from beautiful to unforgettable?

We sat down with The Tagli, our go-to creative partner, to dive into the magic behind our collaboration on the Lancasters Project. This is where curated design meets artistic brilliance—and the results speak for themselves.

Who Is The Tagli, and Why Do We Love Working With Them?

The Tagli isn’t just a gallery—it’s a creative powerhouse curating bold, meaningful artwork from emerging and established talents. Their passion? Finding pieces that not only complement a space but make it sing. Think of them as the secret ingredient behind that “wow” factor in your favourite interiors.

We took an exclusive interview with The Tagli to talk about their creative approach and their role in bringing the Lancasters Project to life.

Exclusive Interview with The Tagli

Q: Can you share a bit about The Tagli and the creative philosophy behind your work?
A:
The Tagli is a gallery and advisory promoting and exhibiting artwork from both emerging and established artists, locally and internationally. We curate exhibitions that push the boundaries of understanding the current art scene while fostering innovation. As a consultant to private and corporate collectors, we aim for transparency in showcasing artistically and intellectually significant contemporary art.

Q: What is your typical creative process when working on bespoke projects?
A:
We begin with a one-on-one meeting to understand the client’s design brief, spatial requirements, and personal preferences. Our team then searches within our network of artists, or beyond if necessary, to curate the perfect portfolio of artworks that fit the client’s vision.

Q: Are there any materials or techniques you particularly enjoy working with?
A:
Our name, The Tagli, is inspired by Lucio Fontana’s iconic canvas slices that transcended the two-dimensional picture plane. We are particularly drawn to works that embody materiality and tactile elements, reflecting the spirit of Fontana’s innovation.

About the Collaboration

Q: Could you tell us about your experience collaborating on the Lancasters Project?
A:
Working with Miaki on the Lancasters Project was fantastic. Our brief was to find modern, abstract pieces that brought energy yet maintained a calm balance to the space.

Q: How did you approach creating the key artwork for this project? What inspired the pieces you contributed?
A:
Our inspiration stemmed from Miaki’s request for a balance between heritage and modernity. Jan Valík’s flowing forms worked seamlessly with the curved furniture in the reception room, while Daisy Billowes’ textured, gestural paintings introduced movement to transitional spaces like stairways. Shumaiya Khan’s pops of pink in her textural work tied beautifully to the marble and natural elements within the mezzanine.

Challenges & Highlights

Q: Were there any unique challenges in creating artwork for the Lancasters Project?
A:
The main challenge was finding pieces with the right dimensions to fit the bespoke spaces—it felt like a creative puzzle. But once everything fit, the results were worth the effort.

Q: What aspect of the collaboration are you most proud of?
A:
We are incredibly proud to have featured works by emerging talents like Daisy Billowes, Shumaiya Khan, and Jan Valík. It’s rewarding to see their work become integral to such a beautifully designed interior.

Q: Do you have a favourite piece from the Lancasters Project?
A:
It’s difficult to choose a favourite because each piece contributes to creating a unique moment within the space.

Future Projects

Q: What trends in art and interior design excite you the most right now?
A:
We’re seeing more designers placing art at the centre of their concepts, and we couldn’t be more excited. Designing with the art as the starting point opens up limitless creative possibilities.

Q: How can people interested in your work get in touch or learn more about The Tagli?
A:
Follow us on Instagram at @thetagli, visit our website thetagli.com, or email us at bb@thetagli.com. We’re also showcasing our work at Chelsea Harbour London Design Week—a perfect chance to meet us in person.

What’s Next in Art and Interiors?

The Tagli is passionate about designing spaces where the art comes first. Instead of treating art as an afterthought, they use it to build the entire design story.

This collaboration with The Tagli shows that when you bring the right art into the right space, magic happens. Carefully chosen pieces can elevate interiors, creating moments that inspire and captivate. We look forward to more creative journeys with them in the future.
